Preparing for the Second Literary Symposium in Jackson, Tennessee

The Friends of the Jackson-Madison County Public Library in Tennessee have invited me to give a series of talks at their Second Annual Literary Symposium in Jackson Tennessee, in late April.

I'm working on a couple of Powerpoint presentations, one entitled (at their request) "The Impact of Filipino History and Culture Upon American Literature."

This will be the first time I'll be doing Powerpoint presentations so I'm both nervous and excited. There's a strong similarity to the thinking behind Powerpoint and Storyboarding in film making.  Since I have some experience in film making, I feel comfortable working with images to complement my talk.  It's actually quite fun doing this, and there is a wealth of images in the internet that makes this a breeze.

I've seen others do Powerpoint presentations, and the ones that had strong narratives did well.  The ones who showed the pictures and talked about them were less interesting.

I'm doing my best to have a strong "script" and use the images to complement the narrative.

If you have suggestions, dear Readers, about how to make good Powerpoint presentations, email me.

Here are some tentative Powerpoint slides. I'm still working on the presentations so things could change.

The information and schedule of the literary events in Jackson, Tennessee follow. The schedule could change, so please call the library or check back for the firm schedule.
