Garden: The Flower Market of Burma (Myanmar)

My gardening activities have triggered the memory of the Flower Market of Maymyo in Burma (Myanmar). We visited Burma two years ago, the hottest time in Burma, but it was an opportune time to observe changes in the government. The military government decided to be less restrictive and Aung San Suu Kyi was released from her house arrest. "On April 1, 2012, she was elected to the ... lower house of the Burmese parliament ... and her party also won 43 of the 45 vacant seats in the lower house." (info from Wikipedia)

We visited many places in Burma, including Maymyo where there was a flower market. It was very lively and colorful with vendors displaying stacks of flowers, and men on motorcycles hauling them out.

Some of the people had thanaka, the white cosmetic powder on their faces, as sunblock primarily.

Here are some pictures. Click on the pictures to make them larger.

Your first photo with the little boy on top of the pile of flowers could be a poster, Cecilia. It is really beautiful. The other photos are also beautiful and interesting but this stands out.
